PKF marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October with a community campaign culminating in its annual Breast Care Breakfast at NEX on Thursday, 16 October. The initiative raises funds for the Hunter Nurse Education Group (HNEG) to support Breast Care nurses across the Hunter.
Managing Director at PKF Sydney and Newcastle, Bob Bell says the firm’s focus is to back the work of local nurses who support people with breast cancer in the region. Bob says PKF’s October activity reaffirms its commitment to keeping these services accessible for those who need them.
In 2024, more than 450 people attended PKF’s 18th annual Breast Care Breakfast, raising a record $60,726. The funds support education days and events for Hunter nurses at no cost. Organisers say the training enhances knowledge and skills, influences behaviours and attitudes, and improves clinical outcomes for patients. Due to the strong fundraising outcome, the event funds 14 education and travel grants to help Hunter nurses extend their expertise beyond day-to-day roles.
Calvary Mater Transitional Nurse Practitioner, Casey Hutchinson says the support enables timely care for patients. Casey says the partnership with PKF allows HNEG to deliver customised education and training and to support nurse-led research so nurses can operate at the highest level of practice for the benefit of patients.
The October campaign also encourages community participation through wearing pink, workplace fundraising and event attendance. Organisers note the breakfast includes raffle prizes and provides options for those unable to attend in person to contribute in spirit. Donations go to HNEG.
