PCYC Singleton celebrates 60 years of supporting youth and community

For six decades, PCYC Singleton has been a safe space for young people across the Hunter Valley and Upper Hunter to build confidence, develop leadership skills, and reach their full potential through sports, recreation, and life-changing youth programs.

Club Manager David Andrews said marking 60 years of impact is a significant milestone, achieved with the ongoing support of PCYC’s members, volunteers, partners, and donors.

“The official opening was 13 September 1965, and our local PCYC has been pointing young people in the right direction in life ever since, developing their skills, character and leadership through our partnership with NSW Police,” David said.

Joss Davies, a member for eight years, shared her experience: “For me personally I gained confidence and met lifelong friends. PCYC is a place where you feel truly included and encouraged to be your best. It gives young people positive role models and safe connections. It supports kids who might otherwise drift into risky situations by giving them structure and purpose. It creates opportunities whether it’s through leadership programs, volunteering, or pathways into work or education.”

One of the Club’s most popular youth programs, Fit for Life, helps young people aged 10 to 17 start their day with fitness, mentorship, a nutritious breakfast, and transport to school.

For participants like John Wilson, PCYC’s programs provide structure and motivation, improving school engagement and fostering positive habits.

“PCYC has given me motivation, something to train for. It has improved my life a lot both physically and mentally. I love it,” John said.

PCYC Singleton encourages people from all walks of life to get involved in the activities on offer. The Club is more than a space for recreation — it’s a place where young people belong, grow, and thrive.
