Local institution Newcastle Business Club (NBC) will be hosting former Prime Minister The Honourable John Howard OM AC, as their keynote speaker during their June function.
John Howard served as Australia’s Prime Minister between March 1996 and November 2007. He is the nation’s second longest serving Prime Minister, was a member of Parliament for 33 years, and was previously Treasurer in an earlier government.
President Ty Brennock said that the NBC was thrilled to be bringing such a high profile speaker to the region.
“As far as we’re aware Mr Howard has only previously spoken at 2 or 3 other events in the Newcastle region,” Ty said. “We feel it’s a real coup to be able to host him at the NBC.”
In order to meet predicated demand the monthly event has been moved to Newcastle City Hall (as opposed to the usual Harbourview Function Centre venue)
Mr Howard is a Companion of the Order of Australia and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States by President George W Bush. In January 2012 Queen Elizabeth II appointed Mr Howard to the Order of Merit.
Mr Howard will be speak China and the global economy, in particular China’s importance to our own economy.
“We’re also very thankful to the McCloy Group, who have come on board as gold sponsors and McGuigan Wines who are silver sponsors and will be supplying matching wines with the first-class lunch” Ty continued.
“This event serves as a tribute to the support the local business community have given the Newcastle Business Club, showing our commitment to deliver.”
