A new Hunter business will help local businesses, organisations and schools to make a much needed eMindshift, according to its Founder Cheryl Royle.
Cheryl will launch eMindshift Learning at the upcoming Hunter Innovation Festival (May 6 to 18) when she delivers a free masterclass on the need for people to lead with an entrepreneurial mindset.
The firm offers online training and face-to-face workshops to help staff in businesses, councils, not-for-profits, start-ups, government departments as well as school students and teachers to develop entrepreneurial behaviours. It plans to extend the offering through partnerships with local business and innovation incubators.
eMindshift Learning’s Developing an Entrepreneurial Mindset program is based on researched programs developed in the United States by The Entrepreneurial Learning Initiative (ELI), contextualised to the Australian environment.
Cheryl said by having staff with a more entrepreneurial approach, organisations are more likely to be successful and productive in today’s complex, fast and ever-changing world. She said start-ups often fail because people run them with a managerial focus instead of an entrepreneurial focus.
A 2017 Gallup report found only 14 per cent of employees in Australia and New Zealand are engaged in their jobs. Cheryl said an entrepreneurial culture can help to create an engaged workforce.
“The Gallup research shows organisations with an engaged workforce will outperform those with non-engaged workforces in profitability, productivity, customer satisfaction, retention and absenteeism,” Cheryl said.
“Entrepreneurship is a mindset; a framework for thinking and acting that exposes opportunity, ignites ambition, and fosters innovation.”
An entrepreneurial mindset is a specific set of beliefs, knowledge, and thought processes that drives entrepreneurial behaviour. It helps people to better identify problems, deploy solutions, and make
connections by using creative and critical thinking, communication, and collaboration.
Cheryl said people with an entrepreneurial mindset take ownership of situations and tasks; are self-directed, action-oriented, and highly engaged; are highly resilient, resourceful, and solution-oriented; are curious, creative, and critical thinkers; are reliable and follow through on solutions; look to create value for others; and are positive but open to critical guidance.
Cheryl has decades of experience as a business coach and facilitator. She is the CEO of The Finer Line and chair of Young Business Minds Inc.
The free eMindshift Learning Masterclass is on May 9 from 6pm until 7pm at University of Newcastle’s NewSpace Building.
In its 17th year, The Hunter Innovation Festival aims to embrace, celebrate and promote a culture of innovation in the region. More than 1,200 people attended last year’s festival across 15 events.
