Good Folk Brewing, a new brewhouse from the owners of The Blind Monk and Bartholomew’s, celebrated its opening earlier this month.
The new brewery and brewhouse follows the owner’s earlier ventures into brewing, having overseen brews sold through their portfolio of bars and restaurants.
Promising to cut through the noise that is the craft beer movement, owners Phil and John Elsley have a specific goal in mind – high quality, easy drinking beer.
“We know that there’s probably too much choice in the market now. There’s a new product on the shelf each week and some flavours can be pretty out there” John said.
“There is a demographic of people who want to support independent brewers, but maybe they aren’t into all the fluff.
“We’ve had some success with our own beer in the past, where we used a back-to-basics approach.”
The product John refers to is a tropical pale ale called Danny’s Wedge which has been sold through their venues for several years
Phil said it was created in dedication to a great mate.
“He was a regular at one of our bars and well liked throughout the community,” Phil said.
“We produced a beer in his honour and straight away it gained an incredibly good following. That is where this brand comes from.”
“Danny’s Wedge is our hero beer, but our core range sticks to the same principles,” John said.
“All our beers are made to be enjoyed without having to dig too deep into the craft beer psyche.”
The brewery will be open for walk ins in December to allow locals to get in and check it out and will offer bookings in the New Year.
