Myrtec flags concern over rise of employees accessing work data for next Techshop

Local IT provider, Myrtec’s next monthly Techshop will aim to teach local business owners how to implement an effective Mobile Device Management (MDM) policy.

The Myrtec team believes business owners typically fall into one of the following two categories.

One, is they are under the assumption that their common antivirus keeps employees’ work accounts safe, thereby accounts logged in on mobile phones are safe too.

Two, is that they believe employees need separate work phones for security. Myrtec says that neither of these statements is true.

At the Techshop, the Myrtec team will run through a case study that demonstrates the outcome of not having a thorough MDM policy.

Next, they will show what an effective MDM policy looks like. Finally, they will dive into practical and actionable tips that business owners can apply to tighten security on employees’ mobile phones.

General Manager at the University of Newcastle Students’ Association (UNSA), Jennifer Hanson, praised Myrtec’s last Techshop, which was designed to inspire business owners to cut down on their subscriptions for decreases in cost and increases in efficiency, as well as improved security posture.

“Skye and Rob’s presentation demonstrated what organisational risks were associated with the topic, and they shared their insights and realistic ways to avoid common mistakes,” Jennifer said.

Marketing Coordinator at Myrtec, Skye Harvey said that the team chose MDM for the topic of their August Techshop because people within the business community have been asking about it.

“We want to ensure Techshops cover the topics people have burning questions about,” Skye said.

“Everyone uses their mobiles for work, and many organisations don’t have an MDM policy. If your business doesn’t, you should come along.”

Myrtec Director, Tristan Hough said that their Techshop series is aimed at business owners, CFOs, CTOs and General Managers.

“We are hopeful that attendees leave Techshops and go back to their office inspired to prioritise their technology strategy and share their learnings with colleagues,” Tristan said.

“We appreciate seeing new and familiar faces at each Techshop and are thankful for everyone who makes time to come along.”

The next Myrtec Techshop is being held on Wednesday 23 August with complimentary lunch for guests.
