This month, Belmont 16s staff are embracing the spirit of Movember by sporting the signature facial hair trend, in support of men’s health.
The Movember Foundation is the leading global organisation committed to changing the face of men’s health. The organisation specifically addresses the big four health issues faced by men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and mental health and suicide prevention.
The 16s team have raised over $2,000 for the Movember Foundation to date and are ranked within the top 500 teams in the nation.
CEO and Movember participant, Scott Williams said Movember gives them an opportunity to connect with the community on a different scale.
“By getting together, growing moustaches and raising funds we can hopefully draw attention to some of the harrowing statistics, including that men die on average six years earlier than women and represent 75% of all suicides,” Scott said.
The 16s mo movement was started by staff member, Ryan Clarke. Ryan’s reason for rallying his fellow colleagues was both a personal one and for fun.
“I have had experiences in the past with friends who have suffered mental health issues, it can happen to anyone,” Ryan said. “It’s also really important to raise awareness and get people to talk about it and enjoy themselves. Getting involved in the fun brings everyone closer together.”
