Local business representatives are encouraged to attend a Major Projects Lunch on Friday 1 August from 12.30pm to 3pm at the Singleton Regional Livestock Market.
The lunch is a joint initiative of Singleton Council, Singleton Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Hunter Founders Forum, providing manufacturing and engineering businesses with networking opportunities and the chance to hear from important industry speakers about current and future opportunities.
Attendees will hear about the more than $35 million being invested into Singleton and the opportunities and benefits for local businesses.
Singleton Council General Manager Lindy Hyam says Council alone will be spending more than $82 million this financial year, its largest budget in the past 10 years.
“Our capital works program is more than double what it was in 2006/07 at $35.14 million and includes $8.6 million on the town centre revitalisation, $7.17 million on road construction and upgrades, $6 million on the Singleton Regional Livestock Market and $3.5 million in residential land development,” she said.
“This is one of our most ambitious capital works programs yet and will present great opportunities for local business and industry. As required by local government regulation, projects over $150,000 are put out to open tender and while local businesses are encouraged to tender, Council has no policy for giving preference to local suppliers.”
