The Hunter Section of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Australia (CILTA) is hosting a dinner function at the Newcastle Club, with guest speaker Geoff Crowe, CEO of Port of Newcastle.

To be held on Wednesday, 24 February 2016, Geoff will talk about the key role Port of Newcastle plays in Hunter logistics and transport now and what is planned for the future.

Geoff joined Port of Newcastle as Chief Executive Officer in July 2015. He has extensive experience in the Hunter region’s coal mining sector, having held leadership roles with Port Waratah Coal Services, which operates two coal terminals within the port, and a number of mining companies.

As a Novocastrian, Geoff has a special interest in seeing the port continue to improve its efficiency with existing trades, including coal, and also grow and attract new trades, recognising that the port contributes to the prosperity of the Hunter region.

The Port of Newcastle is the world’s largest coal export port and is one of Australia’s largest ports by throughput tonnage. Strategically positioned at the gateway to the largest regional economy in New South Wales, with close proximity to Sydney, the port is the economic and trading centre for the Hunter Valley and much of northern New South Wales and is a critical supply chain interface for the movement of cargo. The Port of Newcastle is an important part of the history of Newcastle with 216 years of commercial shipping and is now entering a new era under new ownership.
