Local company, MV Solar, has solution to eliminating coastal erosion

A Denman entrepreneur has developed a way of eliminating erosion and the devastating effects of storm and sea damage with their new product Recoast Sea Wall solution.

Hunter based renewable energy company MV Solar, has spent an exciting two years developing an innovative answer to the ongoing and at times devastating effects of coastal and waterway erosion in our local communities.

The technology has been independently tested by Manly Hydraulics, with impressive results showing less than one per cent damage to the wall in a simulation of a one in one-hundred-year event – an event such as the 2007 storms when the Pasha Bulker was run aground in Newcastle.

Stockton is currently experiencing these devastating effects first-hand and this locally designed and produced product could be exactly the solution they need.

According to Recoast Managing Director Michael Valantine, the unique sand cell technology is based on a thirty-year technology successfully used in South Africa with absolutely no issues and virtually no maintenance.

“The patented design features a simple construction and proven ability to reduce and eliminate coastal erosion while allowing beaches to be reconstructed using the seas natural movements,” Michael said.

“Using the forces of nature this low cost, virtually maintenance-free product not only protects the shoreline but actually has the capacity to rebuild the beach.

“Our system is completely different to the traditional rock wall solutions used in the past.  In simple terms our unique interlocking cell design allows the wall to absorb the high impacts as waves crash against them,” he continued.

The unique sand cell technology will allow for the sediment and sand that would traditionally be raked away by waves to be left behind, which will aid in rebuilding our beaches.

Michael believes now is the exact time to get the Recoast solution out there working and saving our coast.

“This product will not only eliminate coastal erosion but will manage it in a cost effective, long term way that will save our beaches and save our communities’ money.

“The Recoast system is low cost, easy to manufacture and install and has a warranty of up to fifty years – so is not only a proven solution but one that will be a permanent solution,” he said.

Michael said MV Solar is ready to implement this new technology and that now is the time to get this solution working for our local beaches.

The product took out Most Scaleable Idea at the Business Centre’s recent Singleton Pitch Night.

“We need something that works.  We need to change traditional thinking about outdated, costly methods that are constantly failing.

“I truly believe that Recoast is the only solution that will eliminate the ongoing problem of erosion, damage and cost,” Michael concluded.
