The Newcastle Chapter of the Women Lawyers’ Association of NSW (WLANSW) are hosting Jane Needham SC as their guest speaker at their 30 August 2016 Women Lawyers Association of NSW event. Jane will discuss ‘The Importance of Resilience as a Leader’.
Jane was called to the Bar in 1990, after studying law part-time at UTS where she graduated with first-class honours. She was appointed senior counsel in 2004, after two years of part-time practice following the birth of her daughter, followed by twins in 2006.
Jane was a Deputy President, and Divisional Head of the Revenue Division, of the ADT from 2008-2011, and is the immediate past President of the NSW Bar Association, which role she held from mid-2014 to November 2015.
She was recognised as Lawyer’s Weekly Senior Barrister of the Year in 2013, as one of Australia’s ‘100 Women of Influence’ in 2014, and received the UTS Faculty of Law Alumni Award for Excellence and was the recipient of the ‘Woman Barrister of the Year’ Award at the NSW Women Lawyers Achievement Awards, in 2015.
Jane will share with her reflections on importance of resilience as a leader, in the context of her experience in leadership roles, and particularly in the context of championing diversity at the NSW Bar.
As President of the NSW Bar Association, she has been committed to goals of diversity, gender equity and recognition of flexible practice within the profession and at the Bar, and has been proud to be part of the Bar’s programs such as the guarantee of CBD childcare spaces, Best Practice Guidelines, and work on equitable briefing.
