It may not be the most glamorous job in the world, but to Woodberry man, Josh Carter, truck driving is his life.
The 35-year-old was honoured at a gala awards ceremony in Sydney after he took out the 2018 NSW Professional Driver of the Year award, presented by Road Freight NSW (RFNSW).
Josh is a second-generation truck driver and the owner of Carter Heavy Haulage & Transport, a family owned business which he runs with his wife, Leonnie.
Honoured for his enviable driving record and the unprecedented growth he is experiencing year after year in his business, Josh drives 200,000 kilometres (on average) per year on the road and has never lost a driving demerit point or caused any incident, either on the road or during the transportation process.
In receiving the award, Josh said he was extremely humbled and grateful to be recognised for his years of hard work.
“To say that I was surprised would be an understatement,” Josh said.
“The transport industry at times doesn’t get the greatest attention in the media due to a small minority of careless drivers.
“I’m proud to represent the thousands of drivers who genuinely care about our industry and help break down the barriers to share all the positive benefits the industry brings to the local and national economy.”
Carter Heavy Haulage and Transport employs six people and has a fleet of six prime movers and a series of trailers including drop-decks, floats, and a soon to be delivered extendable trailer. The business has clients predominantly from the Hunter region, who they service deliveries for along the Eastern-seaboard.
Other accolades at the annual RFNSW Awards include Outstanding Contribution to the NSW Trucking Industry, NSW Transport Woman of the Year, NSW Top Technical and Maintenance and Best Safety Culture.
The awards gala event was followed by the Road Freight NSW Conference, which organisers say is the voice of the road transport industry in NSW.
