The national spotlight returns to the Hunter as the Hunter Defence Conference 2023 announces a trio of keynote speakers set to captivate audiences at the annual event.
Among those presenting to the conference are The Hon. Matt Thistlethwaite, Assistant Minister for Defence, who will share insights into critical defence matters and the recently released Defence Strategic Review (DSR) and the esteemed former Ambassador to the US, Arthur Sinodinos, who will delve into the evolving US-Australia relationship and its far-reaching implications for defence, technology, and economic collaboration.
The Hon. Pat Conroy, Minister for Defence Industry will headline the Gala Dinner presentation.
Scheduled for 23 and 24 August at Rydges Hunter Valley, the conference will focus on the theme of how the opportunities for AUKUS (Australia, United Kingdom and the United States) and the Defence Strategic Review will impact the Hunter.
Chair of the Hunter Defence Taskforce, Tim Owen AM said that the speakers set for the event will give extraordinary insight into the challenges that lie ahead and how Australia can leverage opportunities through agreements and changes to legislation.
“Ministers Thistlethwaite and Conroy will discuss Australian industry opportunities and sovereign capability requirements for the Defence of Australia in the context of our strategic challenges,” Tim said.
“Mr Sinodinos will provide a view of the US-Australia relationship, of the opportunities for Australia through the AUKUS agreements, and the likely impact of changes to the US’ International Traffic in Arms Regulations of the Defence Production Act.
“He will provide valuable insights into Australia’s role as a trusted ally and partner in this evolving landscape.”
The Hunter Defence Conference 2023 promises a platform for thought-provoking discussions, valuable insights, and networking opportunities with a range of additional high-profile speakers.
Some of these include Defence Strategist Michael Shoebridge, Allan Aaron, Defence Industry Advisor at the Office of Defence Industry Support, representatives from all military forces, presentations from nine Primes that are providing opportunity in the region and an SME panel of those successful in cracking the Defence Industry market.
“We are thrilled to again be hosting the Hunter Defence Conference, providing a platform for local SMEs to collaborate and explore the latest developments in the defence sector,” Tim continued.
“It is a particularly important time for the region. With AUKUS and the DSR in the mix and this year’s agenda, it provides a unique opportunity for local organisations to hear the latest on both initiatives and most importantly, understand what they mean for their organisations and our region.”
