The HIA-COLORBOND® steel Housing 100 Report for 2018/19 reveals that three Hunter based builders were once again named in the top 100 of Australia’s largest volume builders.

The three businesses that made the list were Thornton’s MJH Group, Rutherford’s Mavid Group and Belmont’s Montgomery Homes.

HIA Executive Director, Craig Jennion, said that the report revealed builders in the Hunter accounted for some of the largest 100 residential builders, based on the number of homes commenced in 2018/19.

“MJH Group, which trades predominantly in NSW as McDonald Jones Homes and Mojo Homes, retained its established mantle as the number one detached house builder in NSW and was again listed 4th nationally,” Craig said.

“Adding the multi-unit projects completed the MJH Group remained the 6th largest home builder in Australia, with 2,378 starts, which is impressive considering they don’t operate in the apartment market, unlike a number of those ranked above them.”

With 201 starts, Rutherford based Mavid Group continued to climb the list, ranked the 71^st largest home builder nationally, followed by Montgomery Homes who also ascended the ranking to be 77th with 182 starts.

Mavid Group was also ranked the 15^th largest Semi-Detached Dwelling Builder and 18^th largest Multi-Unit Builder nationally.

Highlights from the report showed that the largest 100 residential builders accounted for 35 per cent of the new home building market in Australia.

“More broadly the findings of this year’s Housing 100 Report dovetails with the positive journey that the Hunter new home building sector has been on in recent years,” Craig said.

“Despite a decline in the NSW market, where new dwelling starts fell by an estimated fifteen per cent to 61,376, Hunter based builders in the Housing 100 Report market share has increased.”
