A host of regional, not-for-profit community organisations will benefit from the latest round of funding from Glencore’s NSW General Grants.
Fourteen groups are being supported with more than $29,000 in funding, which takes the total amount of grants for 2021 beyond $76,000.
Glencore’s Community Relations Manager, Craig Strudwick said the important role these groups play within regional communities has only been amplified by the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“These grassroots associations are the heart and soul of our regional communities,” Craig said.
“We hope this funding will enable them to continue to grow and increase their capacity to support our communities long-term.”
Type 1 Foundation, Hunter New England is one of the groups to receive funding.
A not-for-profit charity, Type 1 raises awareness of Type 1 Diabetes and provides support to families living with this chronic disease through events and various programs.
Type 1 Committee Member, Teresa Brauer said one of these events is set to take place in the Muswellbrook area early next year when 20 families will get to enjoy a fun day subsidised by the community grant.
“We thought it would be a really good opportunity for us to bring together the kids who live across the Hunter Valley area and further out,” Teresa said.
“It’s also a great opportunity for the parents to meet each other, have some time out and share advice.
“We will cook up a nice barbecue for them and have volunteers from our committee there to assist with supervision.”
Aside from the community day, the Glencore grants will also fund new equipment and technology for recipients.
The next round of General Grants will be held in March 2022.
