Hunter-based Compass Housing has been awarded three times in this month’s Australian Business Awards, adding to a list of accolades achieved this year.
The community housing organisation was a winner in the Community Contribution, Business Innovation and Employer of Choice categories. Compass was also a winner in the first two categories last year and has been named an Employer of Choice for the third year in a row.
The latest awards follow on from the Australasian Housing Institute’s NSW Awards it won in July. Compass won three of the eight awards up for grabs. It won the Professional Excellence in Social Housing Award for the most outstanding organisation, community housing provider or government agency involved in housing for NSW as well as the Leading Asset Management Award.
Group Managing Director, Greg Budworth, took out the Outstanding Achievement Award for an individual. Compass was also commended for its community development work and tenant initiatives, including its community hubs. Compass is now a finalist in the national awards to be held at the end of November.
It is also a finalist in three categories in the upcoming Hunter Business Awards. Greg Budworth is nominated for Business Leader of the Year while Compass is a finalist for the Contribution to the Region and Excellence in Business (20+) awards.
Greg said as a socially committed not-for-profit organisation, the Compass team is always looking to improve the way it does things.
“These awards are a welcome recognition of the hard work and dedication that drives us to deliver better outcomes for our tenants and provide greater satisfaction for our staff,” Greg said.
“We have an awesome team who do more than put a roof over people’s heads.
“Our goal is to help our tenants to maximise their contribution to the community, economically and socially.”
Greg said more important than the awards is the opportunity to make a real difference to people’s lives.
“Social housing is an important piece of community infrastructure that makes a fundamental difference to people’s ability to work, get skills or to raise a family.”
Compass Housing is an international community housing provider managing more than 4,600 properties as well as community development projects in Australia, New Zealand and Vanuatu.
