A number of Hunter businesses have helped 1233 ABC Radio Newcastle to support the people of Dungog affected by the devastating super storm that rocked the Hunter region in April 2015.
This week the radio station is conducting an on air charity auction of 12 items, including a helicopter ride, a yacht racing experience, a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the Rescue Helicopter simulator and weekends away. The proceeds will go to the Dungog Shire Community Centre fundraising appeal.
1233 ABC Newcastle Station Manager Phil Ashley-Brown said the auction items were generously donated by local businesses.
Phil said that as the emergency broadcaster, the ABC team was acutely aware of the impact of the storm on the Dungog community.
He and other team members were in Dungog after the storm to see the devastation.
“It is clear that the Dungog community needs cash to rebuild so we wanted to find away to raise funds for the Dungog Community Centre Appeal,” Phil said.
This week 1233 Drive Presenter Paul Bevan is taking bids for the items on air between 3pm and 6pm (phone 1300 33 1233). The auction will close at 5.30pm Friday (5 June).
