Broke trails a silver streak as top tiny tourism destination

Broke has continued its silver streak at the 2025 NSW Top Tourism Town Awards, claiming second prize for the second consecutive year in the Tiny Tourism Town category (population under 1500 residents).

Mayor of Singleton, Cr Sue Moore said the award reinforced the Broke Fordwich region as a perfect destination for a weekend escape, whether it was bringing family and friends together for a special occasion or simply as a place to unwind.

The accolade comes just in time for the Broke BBQ Festival over the June long weekend, with a range of attractions and activities on offer including boutique beer, wine and spirits; live bands; cooking demonstrations; a children’s activity zone; and of course, plenty of barbecuing.

“It might be known as the hidden gem of the Hunter Valley, but Broke is far from a well-kept secret,” Cr Moore said.

“It’s a village brimming with reasons to visit, including history and heritage, arts and culture, food and wine experiences, and plenty of country charm.

“We could not be prouder that Broke has again been recognised in the top two tiny destinations in the State and a truly outstanding regional destination, but we’re not surprised.”

Announced at this week’s LGNSW Destination and Visitor Economy Conference in the Tweed Shire, Broke was runner up to coastal Huskisson which claimed back-to-back gold as the top tiny tourism town.

“Judging relied on public support, and I thank everyone who cast their vote for Broke and also recognise the passionate community who got right behind our entry by highlighting all the reasons they love their village,” Cr Moore said.

“As regional destinations and nature tourism continue to lead tourism trends, Broke has everything for a weekend getaway or a long stay for people of all ages to come together and create amazing memories.

“With so much on offer from animal encounters and opportunities for adventure through to stunning scenery—not to mention world-renowned food and wine, I’d advise making a booking soon if you don’t want to miss out!”
