Micro Theatre has been successful in securing Community Partnership Funding from the Port of Newcastle for their unique short play festival.

Micro Theatre is a short play writing competition that culminates in a week-long festival season, 23 – 27 August, with the winning plays performed in local café’s and a small art gallery. The sponsorship will go towards prize money and rehearsal space.

Micro Theatre is a social enterprise company and has up until now been completely self-funded through ticket sales and donations.

“Being able to offer monetary prizes is a huge bonus, as Writers, Directors and Actors give an enormous amount of their time and energy,” Festival Director, Kate Dun, said.

“Additionally providing the Directors and Cast with a professional rehearsal space will only lead to a more polished final production and Festival.”

“We are over the moon about this sponsorship and are looking forward to working in partnership with Port of Newcastle.”

“It’s great to see Port of Newcastle, a large corporate body, supporting arts and culture in Newcastle, especially at this micro scale.”

Port of Newcastle’s CEO Geoff Crowe said they were happy to be able to provide assistance.

“As the major sponsor of the Newcastle Micro Theatre Festival in 2016, Port of Newcastle is pleased to support an innovative event that will showcase Newcastle’s vibrant community of performing artists at a grass roots level,” Geoff said.
