Following a busy first half of the year, not-for-profit organisation, Hunter Young Professionals (hyp) have announced their 30th birthday in August alongside their members and special guests.
hyp began as the Newcastle and Hunter Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1993 with a focus on providing professional development and networking opportunities for young professionals.
In 2013 they rebranded to Hunter Young Professionals, or ‘hyp’ for short, and have successfully maintained their purpose and have even managed to raise thousands of dollars for a chosen charity each year.
Ten years on, 2023 has proven to be a hugely successful year for the organisation, and President Danielle O’Neill said they’re delighted to be celebrating the success of hyp after 30 years.
“Since beginning in 1993, hyp has continued to grow and become one of the Hunter’s largest networking communities,” Danielle said.
“We now have almost 3,000 members and we wouldn’t be where we are today without their support, as well as the support of our generous sponsors.
“We’re hoping to have many members join us for our birthday event in August.”
The 30th birthday celebration will be held at Earp Distillery on Saturday 5 August with a 90s dress theme. The event will also be documented by local media agency, Out of the Square Media (OOTS) who are supporting hyp as an event sponsor for the 30th birthday.
In addition to sponsoring the event, Out of the Square will be sponsoring hyp’s monthly MVP – Most Valuable Professional award.
This is given to a member of the organisation who is doing excellent things in their career or community, who hyp wishes to recognise.
Vice President of hyp, Rebecca Tighe says they’re excited to have Out of the Square on board to help celebrate this huge milestone.
“Out of the Square has been doing fantastic work in the Newcastle community for almost as many years, and we’re excited to have them joining us as an event sponsor for our biggest event of the year,” Rebecca said.
“To have them sponsoring our brand-new MVP award as well is an added bonus.
“We’re always wanting to recognise the awesome work our members are doing, and this award is the perfect way to congratulate them,” Rebecca said.
In addition to speeches from past and present Board members, attendees to the 30th birthday event will be treated to some 90s-themed fun, with some surprises throughout the night.
