The Family Law Co.’s Sacha Mastras Named Finalist for Regional/Suburban Lawyer of the Year

The Family Law Co.’s Sacha Mastras Named Finalist for Regional/Suburban Lawyer of the Year

The Family Law Co. is proud to announce that Newcastle-based solicitor and Accredited Family Law Specialist, Sacha Mastras, has been named a finalist for the Regional/Suburban Lawyer of the Year at the 2025 Australian Law Awards.

Presented by Lawyers Weekly, this prestigious national awards program celebrates legal professionals who make a significant impact in regional, suburban, or remote communities. The Regional/Suburban Lawyer of the Year category specifically recognises those who bring expertise, care, and leadership to their communities, often with fewer resources and less recognition than their city-based counterparts.

Sacha joined The Family Law Co. in 2024 and quickly became a pivotal force within the practice. She works closely with clients navigating some of life’s most challenging situations, including high-conflict parenting disputes, complex property matters, and urgent safety concerns involving family violence and coercive control.

Her clients often arrive feeling overwhelmed and uncertain, but leave feeling more informed, supported, and empowered. Sacha’s approach is calm, strategic, and grounded in compassion, and her impressive outcomes speak volumes.

Beyond her client work, Sacha also plays a vital leadership role within the firm, mentoring junior lawyers through their first court appearances, complex filings, and emotionally charged cases. She supervises daily operations, builds training pathways, and refines internal systems to make the work more sustainable for the team.

In regional practice, where services can be stretched and the stakes are often deeply personal, Sacha’s steadiness and care have had a profound and lasting impact both in and out of the courtroom.

Reflecting on her role, Sacha shared:

“If that experience shapes how someone views the legal profession, if it gives them trust where they had none – that to me, is impact.”

The Family Law Co. is a boutique practice known for its values-led approach to family law. The firm places a strong emphasis on alternative dispute resolution, helping clients to separate amicably and make informed decisions during challenging times. The all-female team supports families across Newcastle, the Hunter Valley, and North West NSW, with a strong focus on accessibility and community connection.

The firm was previously named a finalist for Regional Law Firm of the Year at the 2023 and 2024 Australian Law Awards and is recognised in the Doyle’s Guide as a Leading Family Law Firm in regional NSW.

Sacha’s individual nomination is not only a significant professional milestone but also a reflection of the care, strength, and leadership she brings to the legal profession and the people of the Hunter region.
