A former Novocastrian and the man who enabled millions to climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge, is returning to share his secrets to business success to benefit local business people and patients of Maitland Hospital.
Founder and Chairman of BridgeClimb, Paul Cave AM, is the guest speaker at the next Maitland Hospital Foundation business luncheon, to be held at the Maitland Regional Art Gallery on Monday, 7 March 2016.
The former Newcastle Boys High student worked in marketing and management at B&D Roll-A-Door before creating the Amber Group, then Australia’s largest tile and paving retailer. He is now Chairman of Clyde Bank Holdings, Director of public listed companies Domino’s Pizza Enterprises, and Chairman of Lovisa Holdings.
An interest in Sydney’s ‘coathanger’ was started by his late father-in-law, who lined up overnight in March 1932, to buy the first ticket for the first train ride over the bridge. The ticket is one of more than 5,000 pieces of bridge memorabilia Paul has in his collection. Paul’s dream to share its summit with people was born, with the official launch of BridgeClimb in October 1998. More than three million climbs have now been sold and the business won the Australian Tourism Award for Major Tourist Attractions.
In 2010, Paul was cited in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for his services to the tourism industry in NSW. He was named a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) with the citation also describing his service to the community as a supporter of a range of health, sporting and charitable organisations.
The Co-founder of the Maitland Hospital Foundation and Partner at Pitcher Partners, Greg Farrow, said Paul’s story is one of passion and perseverance.
“The lunch aims to raise much needed funds for the Foundation to purchase much needed equipment for The Maitland Hospital so they may continue to provide comprehensive, high quality health services to the community,” Greg said. “The luncheon was possible thanks to the generous support of Paul, major sponsor McDonald Jones and Pitcher Partners.”
The last luncheon, held in November 2015, featured John Richards, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of The Bloomfield Group and was sponsored by Marathon Group. Greg said that luncheon raised in excess of $10,000.
