The Housing Industry Association (HIA) has announced the roll out of the 2015 Build Your Future scholarship program.
In conjunction with program partners – JELD-WEN Australia and STRATCO – Build Your Future provides assistance to help offset the cost of HIA training fees for young tradesman undertaking nationally recognised training courses. Full and partial training scholarships up to $7,200 are available nationwide.
Young people within the residential building industry have benefited from the program since 2010, with 111 scholarships awarded across Australia.
“Small business is a central part of the residential building industry and this industry funded initiative is designed to provide training and advice that young people need to gain a builders licence,” HIA Executive Director Hunter, Craig Jennion, said.
“The industry is already seeing pressure on the availability of skills due to historically high levels of activity, which combined with an aging workforce, highlights the importance of training initiatives such as Build Your Future.”
“By encouraging the next generation of tradespeople to gain higher qualifications today, the program helps give young tradespeople a start, and hopefully puts them along the way to being their own boss.”
Participants undertake a Certificate IV in Building and Construction cover building, site management, estimating and contract administration.
From the most recent round a scholarship was awarded to the Hunters Riley Tomlin. Riley, along with successful recipients across Australia, will commence training in 2015.
Applications for the next round of Build Your Future Scholarships close Thursday, 30 April 2015. To be eligible, nominees must be engaged in the building industry as an apprentice, employee or contractor. Nominees will be preferably, but not limited to, 25 years of age or younger at the time of nomination.
