Three professional services firms operating in the Hunter have come together to urge local businesses to better understand and manage their intellectual property (IP), as it is critical to business success.
Scott Edden from Pitcher Partners Newcastle and Hunter will be presenting along-side McCabes’ Head Of Intellectual Property And Technology Jimmy Gill and PSC Insurance Brokers Director Scott Slingo. He says the seminar will examine key legal, accounting and risk aspects associated with managing IP as well as provide tips to protect and maximise the value of a business’ IP.
“IP is a vital business asset and it needs to be managed as such,” Scott said. “It is not something you can “get to” as it’s critical when establishing a new business or entering a new market.”
“People mistakenly think that registering a business or company name gives them exclusive rights, however every business should have a proactive IP strategy because it provides a competitive advantage and can be an important asset on the balance sheet.”
“IP is important because it encourages and rewards innovation.”
Intellectual Property (IP) is a term that describes the application of the mind to develop something new or original. IP can be a new invention, brand, design or artistic creation. Some forms of IP require a formal application and examination process before a right can be registered. Other rights come into play without the need for a registration process.
