Like for most businesses in the Hunter, COVID-19 rocked the boat for local coastal sightseeing and whale watching business, CoastXP.
Business Founder and Managing Director, Dominic May has responded to the crisis with new ideas to help locals get out and holiday in their own region during the lockdowns.
CoastXP has this month launched a new experience – guided coastal hiking – which allows locals and visitors to discover the Hunter region with the support and insights from a licensed wildlife guide.
The first coastal hike, the Caves Coastal Hike, will take explorers into the Wallarah National Park, beginning at Caves Beach and moving along the Lake Macquarie coastline.
“I am really excited to be bringing a new type of coastal experience to this region. I love sharing our coastline with guests aboard our on-water tours, but particularly look forward to offering an adventurous experience which is a little more active,” Dominic said.
“When I look at this region, I see so much potential for more types of experiences, and I hope that CoastXP can make a positive impact through our nature-based tours.”
In addition to expanding its services during a challenging time for most tourism-based businesses, CoastXP has also welcomed a new team member. Rachael Scott studied a Bachelor of Environmental Biology at the University of Technology Sydney and shares Dominic’s passion for exploring, hiking, and for sharing interesting experiences on the ocean.
“Rachael grew up in Newcastle and is a local environmental scientist and wildlife guide who, like me, looks forward to sharing her knowledge of the Wallarah National Park Peninsula with our guests on this new experience,” Dom said.
CoastXP operates both land and on-water adventure-based tours including coastal sightseeing, whale watching and guided hiking in both Newcastle and Lake Macquarie to showcase the Hunter coastline.
