Newcastle based construction company, Backyard Grannys has taken out both the granny flat awards on offer in the Hunter region.
The two independent building industry awards are run by the Master Builders Association (MBA) and the Housing Industry Association (HIA) and have a range of different award categories, but only one each that focuses on granny flats.
Backyard Grannys Director, Alex Mitchell said it was fantastic to be acknowledged by their industry peers.
“We pride ourselves on our custom granny flat solutions, as well as our innovative approach to design and finishes,” Alex said.
“We are absolutely thrilled to win both awards.”
The MBA had over 150 entries across their range of categories, with the objective of the yearly awards to encourage, promote and recognise best practice in building and to establish benchmark projects for contractors to emulate.
The Blackwall was the Backyard Grannys submitted entry and winning granny flat.
“The building demonstrates the high level of features that can be achieved in a granny flat development, as well as demonstrating the potential to integrate attractive outdoor living spaces with this type of home. The limited scale of the project has not generated any limitation on the quality of the outcome,” judges said.
The HIA awards aim to acknowledge the talent of designers, builders, suppliers and manufacturers who plan and construct quality new homes.
Backyard Grannys was recgonised as the winner of the Affordable Housing Project of the Year Award, also for their Blackwall designer granny flat.
As an added bonus, Backyard Grannys now progresses to the HIA-CSR Australian Housing Awards in 2018 to compete for national titles against winners from other HIA regions.
Backyard Grannys was established in 2011 and has since built over 400 granny flats throughout Newcastle, the Hunter, Central Coast and Sydney regions.
Located in Bennetts Green, Backyard Grannys is a locally owned and operated business.
