One of the region’s best-known doctors has been appointed as a Medical Director of the Awabakal Newcastle Aboriginal Co-operative Aboriginal Primary Health Care Centre.
Dr Forster previously worked with Hunter Medicare Local and will use his extensive clinical experience and management skills to help Awabakal reposition its Centre to provide more extensive and effective primary health care services.
According to Awabakal CEO, Don MacAskill, Dr Foster will drive the medical and clinical strategies for the Centre.
“Dr Forster’s clinical experience and knowledge of primary health care management will help drive the new approach that Awabakal has set in motion over the past 12 months,” Don said.
“This will include the development of programs aimed at improving chronic illness in our local Aboriginal community which includes the newly launched Deadly Choices program.”
Awabakal Aboriginal Primary Health Care Centre is located in Denison Street Hamilton and has a team of nine dedicated medical practitioners supported by registered nurses and health workers.
Awabakal is one of Australia’s largest and oldest Aboriginal co-operatives. From its Newcastle base it sets new standards for the delivery of community services. Its commitment to community extends across service areas in primary health care, children’s services and community and disability services.
