Chairman of Newcastle based BusinessBasics Australia, Adam McDean, has been elected as the new Chair of Variety – the Children’s Charity in the Hunter.
Adam brings a strong background in compliance, business management and community to the position, which is focused on enhancing Variety’s local fundraising, profile and community engagement.
Adam has been involved as a fundraiser for Variety for a number of years. He has been an entrant in Variety’s Annual Bash with his father John, which sees up to 100 pre-1982 cars travelling through rural NSW over 7 days raising money for local children who are sick, disadvantaged or living with special needs.
Variety NSW Chair, Amanda Mead, said Adam brings a wealth of business knowledge and networks to the role and Variety is delighted to have him leading the local committee in the Hunter.
“Variety has been supporting children and families in the Hunter for more than 25 years and we have recently established a brand new support service out of our office in Broadmeadow for local families with a child with a rare disease or condition,” Amanda said.
“There are some great opportunities for Variety in Newcastle and the broader Hunter region; I’m confident that Adam will support our local staff and committee to raise awareness and funds to support more local kids.”
Adam said he is looking to make a greater contribution to Variety in the new role and help the committee identify new growth opportunities.
“I am lucky to have two healthy and happy children, but am aware that there are many young people in our community that live with real challenges and disadvantages. This is where Variety makes a real, tangible difference,” Adam said.
