Contain Yourself Australia has developed a system that can convert any shipping container into a tiny house, meaning that safe, affordable and sustainable living is within reach.

Founder of Contain Yourself Australia (CYA), Sean McGilvray, said over the last two years he has perfected the system to modify any second-hand container into tiny house.

“There three main problems with converting shipping containers into a living space, the cost of reinforcing and welding to make them liveable and the requirement to use a brand new container,” Sean said.

“There are more than 17 million disused containers in the world and more are being built every day. Not only is this unsustainable it’s totally unaffordable.”

“The CYA system means that I can teach anyone, anywhere in the world how to convert a second-hand container into a safe, affordable tiny home.”

Quick and easy to install, a CYA tiny house can be put together for emergency housing after natural disasters. It can be customised to build a sleek modern home or can be used as an office, an extra bedroom or granny flat.

Sean calls it ‘floating infrastructure’ – easy to put up, take down and relocate.

“I believe that everyone has the right to shelter, to be safe and secure. That’s why I’m launching a crowd funding campaign to share my system with the world by developing tutorial videos and materials,” Sean continued.

Sean has been affectionately referred to as The Junk Yard Dog and got his nickname from his love of the old and unwanted. Sean says he can see the beauty and potential in discarded building materials that others regard as rubbish, scrap and junk.
