Tom Ballard to join professionals at the Bean Counters Ball

All round funny guy Tom Ballard will join the region’s professional accounting community to enhance youth education pathways in the Hunter at the 2016 Bean Counters Ball on Friday, 28 October 2016.

The Bean Counters Ball is a joint initiative between the local members of Certified Practicing Accountants Australia (CPA) and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) and raises funds for Samaritans and the Hunter TAFE Foundation to support young people acquiring skills in business and accounting.

Following the ongoing success of the Bean Counters Ball, more than 350 guests from the Hunter region accounting and business community are expected to attend the black-tie event at the newly renovated Newcastle Exhibition and Convention Centre (NEX).

In the six years since the black-tie event was established the Bean Counters Ball has raised more than $100,000.  The funds have helped to establish the Bean Counters Pathway and new Associate Degree of Accounting Scholarships through the Hunter TAFE Foundation and support the Samaritans Student Accommodation and Mentor Programs.

Chair of the Bean Counters Ball Committee, Cassandra Sharp said the continued success of this event is the result of the impressive collaboration across the regions accounting and finance community.

“Year upon year the generosity of local businesses who sponsor and donate to this event enable us to continue providing much needed support and encouragement for young people in our region,” Cassandra said.

“By working with Samaritans and Hunter TAFE Foundation we are able to directly support young people to achieve their career aspirations no matter their hardship – whether it is the risk of homelessness or the daily struggle of balancing family and work life with higher education.”

Tom Ballard is currently performing his new show “The World Keeps Happening” at The Edinburgh Fringe Comedy Festival, which was nominated for best show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in April. Tom is the Inaugural Pinder Prize Winner and Barry Award nominee Melbourne Comedy Festival 2016 and was a nominee for the Best Newcomer at Edinburgh Fringe 2015.

Major support has been received from event partners Merchant Business Brokers, Rapsey Griffiths, OAS Technology Group, Bottrell Business Consultants, Jirsch Sutherland, and Roberts Legal. A further eight local organisations have also supported the event.

Tickets to the event are now available to purchase online.
