TCS to boost HMRI website resource

The Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) is one of six Australian not-for-profit organisations set to receive expert IT and technology support as part of a new community program being run by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a leading IT services, consulting and business solutions firm.

At an event in Sydney on Friday the CEO of TCS Australia and New Zealand, Deborah Hadwen, announced the first beneficiaries of the TCS Australia and New Zealand Pro Bono Community Program – joining HMRI are HeartKids Australia, Cystic Fibrosis NSW, The Royal Hospital for Women Foundation, The Australian Indigenous Leadership Centre and The Penguin Foundation.

The Program offers health, education and environment focused not-for-profits with the opportunity to realise how technology can create a significant and positive impact on their communities and the environment.

The organisations will receive in-kind TCS services valued collectively at over $1 million in areas such as application and website development, IT consulting and technology optimisation, digitisation and digital transformation, as well as software testing.

“We believe technology has the power to transform our world and by empowering organisations, such as these six worthy recipients, we have the opportunity to strengthen and further support the communities in which TCS operates,” Deborah said.

“Technology can help us effectively address health, social, and environmental challenges, making them a thing of the past. We are proud to be offering our IT solutions and consulting services to these organisations, enabling them to do what they do best ‚Äì creating a positive impact.”

HMRI’s Associate Director ‚Äì Marketing & Development, Sally Castle, said that they are focussed on making sure that families aren’t torn apart by illness or disease.

“With TCS’s assistance, we will be able to provide healthcare professionals with the latest medical research findings to deliver the best health solutions for their patients,” Sally said.

“The incredible support we are receiving from TCS will allow us to create a captivating and intuitive website that will provide a great resource for the community and assist in growing donations for funding medical research.”

“We are so grateful for this opportunity to work with TCS and their leading team of experts.  This will help keep families together for longer ‚Äì here and across the world.”

Hunter Medical Research Institute

The Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) is a translational research institute. Since 1998, its pioneering partnership with the University of Newcastle and Hunter New England Local Health District has delivered key translational health and medical research and technology closely aligned to community health needs.

Throughout Newcastle and the Hunter, more than 1200 clinical and biomedical researchers and support staff are employed across seven HMRI Research Programs, striving to prevent, cure and treat a diverse range of serious illnesses by translating research findings made in the laboratory and through advanced imaging techniques, into real health treatments and preventative strategies for the community.

HMRI provides vital funding and facilities to fuel research, but the heart and soul of the Institute are people, the researchers, the generous donors and supporters, the committed volunteers, and the patients who participate in trials and ultimately benefit from the research results.
