Soldier On launches Veteran Employment Program in Singleton

Soldier On has expanded the delivery of its Pathways Program in the region with employment support now available in Singleton.

The Pathways Program provides free practical employment and education support for veterans and their family members.

Soldier On Singleton is funded by the NSW Government under the Resources for Regions program and proudly Supported by Singleton Council.

The Pathways Program currently supports over 3,200 participants and guides serving and ex-serving veterans and their families through the complexities and emotional challenges of transitioning to civilian careers.

From providing education support and guidance opportunities, to building awareness among former service personnel of how their skills and experience can be applied in a corporate environment. The Program ensures every participant is well equipped to thrive in the civilian workforce.

Support services in Singleton will be delivered by Solider On Pathways Officer, Kevin Lomax.

Kevin Lomax is a veteran and father of four who spent 15-years in the Australian Army.

He was medically discharged in 2015 and found his transition into civilian employment challenging. After settling with his family in Singleton, he completed a Traineeship in mining and worked at several local mines before joining the Soldier On team to assist his fellow veterans.

“I went from being an experienced leader to an inexperienced trainee starting a whole new career at the bottom. I had to adapt to a different work culture and accept that I had lost all sense of identity,” Kevin said.

“I believe that a lot of our ex-Defence personnel struggle with the challenges that arise post-service, which is why I highly value my role as a Pathways officer with Soldier On because I too have lived the experience.

Soldier On CEO, Ivan Slavich said their team is excited to provide these pathway opportunities to ex-veterans and provide them the support they need to enter the workforce again.

“Soldier On is thrilled to bring its services to Singleton. In expanding the Pathways program into this region, our local veterans will have greater access to transition support and will be able to utilise their exemplary skills and training to secure meaningful, long-term employment after their service,” Ivan concluded.
