Smart Future Cities Conference in Newcastle

Smart Future Cities Conference in Newcastle

The inaugural Smart Future Cities Conference is being held from 1-3 October 2015 at Newcastle City Hall.

Hosted by the University of Newcastle’s Tom Farrell Institute for the Environment (TFI) and its partners the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH), and the City of Newcastle (TCoN), the 3-day conference will have presentations on Future Transport, Clean Energy Solutions and Innovation and Emerging Technologies in the Built Environment, with fees kept low to encourage all to attend.

TFI develops regional transdisciplinary solutions for a sustainable future, by integrating the University’s teaching and research with community engagement. Director of TFI, Professor Tim Roberts, said the conference is shaping up to be one of the most important conferences ever held in Newcastle, showcasing products, ideas and opportunities for jobs of the future from global, national and local experts.

“The response to call for abstracts was overwhelming, attracting internationally renowned speakers,” he said. “It will help to show where the green jobs are for the workers in the future”.

The conference will have presentations on the Thursday and Friday, followed by an Electric Vehicle Show and Clean Energy Expo on the Saturday, with ancillary events such as a Hackathon, a Waste to Energy workshop and significant tours, with some events held before the conference.
