Singleton Council staff will be reflecting on the importance of maintaining a healthy work/life balance next Wednesday in support of national Go Home on Time Day. 

Go Home on Time Day is an initiative of The Australia Institute, an influential research organisation based in Canberra.

The day was conceived in 2009 as a light-hearted way to start a serious conversation about the impact of poor work/life balance on our health, relationships and workplaces.

Singleton Council Acting General Manager Gary Thomson says the day aligns with Council’s organisational values and behaviours that were adopted earlier this year.

“In consultation with staff, we developed five key values and behaviours and one of those specify that we promote a harmonious, productive and positive workplace,” Gary said.

“Go Home on Time Day is about recognising the importance of work/life balance and providing opportunities for staff to have input into how their work is done.”

“This is why we offer flexible working conditions to meet the needs of today’s families and work with staff to create a healthy and sustainable working situation.”

“The fact is, a poor work/life balance has a direct impact on health, relationships and productivity in the workplace and that’s why we’re proud to be supporting Go Home on Time Day.”

In 2013, The Australia Institute, in partnership with beyondblue, will conduct research to highlight the key issues facing Australian workers and workplaces. Overwhelmingly evidence shows a direct link between working conditions and mental health.

Now in its fifth year, Go Home on Time Day is a great way to recognise that life doesn’t need to revolve around work.
