The Glendale East Public School is tucked away in the leafy grounds on Margot Avenue, Glendale East. The quiet spot is an ideal learning environment for students, however it is sometimes overlooked by new enrolments due to its secluded location.

To help raise the profile and encourage engagement within the community, Principle Andrew Pryce, worked with Newcastle graphic design studio, Neon Zoo, to draw attention to the school, it’s location and it’s students.

Together they updated the school emblem and motto, new graphics were developed for their print material and extended through to a mural design on the school grounds. 

Clare Gleeson of Neon Zoo said that, like a business, the school needed to highlight its location, make itself more visible within the community and engage its audience.

“The image update and mural was a great way to reach out to their audience and remind them what a unique school, Glendale East Public School is.”

On Tuesday, 2 December 2013 the school held a community painting day, where parents and students from kindergarten to year six worked together on the painting project. Neon Zoo was on hand on the day to help guide the students and parents in the messy but extremely fun job of bringing the mural to life.  

The students and parents embraced the day and the mural has been a great success in reinforcing the values of the School. There are also plans to repeat the day in the coming school year by extending the mural further throughout the school grounds.  

School Captain of Glendale East Public School, Mikela Savin it was “really fun making the school look brighter, it's really cool.  It's been good watching all the little kids painting with their mums and dads!”
