Real Film Festival invites businesses to tell a story

Why have you chosen to do business in Newcastle?

It’s a question that the Real Film Festival 2017, an initiative of Screen Hunter, is asking local businesses to answer for one of their newest short film competitions.

With so many stories left untold in Newcastle, the Why Newcastle competition is designed to seek out and reveal the narrative treasures that the city has to offer.

Manager of Screen Hunter, Annette Hubber said businesses and the general community are invited to scour the city and showcase their response to why Newcastle?

“We encourage businesses, short film makers and individuals to discover and create a short film that shares the best story of one of our many business operators in Newcastle,” Annette said.

“Telling one story – whether of a local designer, accountant, restaurant owner, entrepreneur or even the corner store owner – could inspire others to reinvent their own.

“We know that there are many untold stories in Newcastle just waiting to be discovered, so we’ve created a platform for them to be shared, recognised and celebrated.”

The films will also be promoted throughout the year on Screen Hunter’s new website, which will launch at the end of October.

The Why Newcastle short film competition is one of three running as part of this year’s full program for the Real Film Festival.

Taking place from 27 to 29 October, the three-day festival will showcase a range of documentaries and independent short and feature-length films, as well as industry development workshops, panel discussions and question and answer sessions with key industry figures.

“As a celebration of the sixth year of the festival and to kick it off in true style, the program will commence with an Opening Night Gala cocktail evening on 27 October at Tower Cinemas,” Annette said.

“We have an exciting selection of feature films on display this year and some extraordinary talent; we can’t wait to share them with you.”

Entries to the Why Newcastle competition close on 9 October 2017.
