Pods proving a popular way to manage stress

A leading health and wellbeing centre says an increasing number of overwhelmed business people are using floatation pods to help cope with increased pressures experienced in the workplace.

Since launching the state of the art floatation pods at its Lambton based studio in June this year, Co-founders of Sensom Health and Wellbeing, Lee Clements and Andrew Cushing, say business people seeking alternative methods to help reduce chronic stress and anxiety currently represent a high percentage of users.

“There is no doubt higher levels of stress, depression and anxiety being felt in the workplace are having a significant impact on the quality of people’s lives,” Lee said.

“The many and often immediate physical and mental health benefits of using floatation therapy to help address and cope with these issues can be profound.”

Recently celebrating its 12 month anniversary, Sensom Health and Wellbeing delivers a unique experience to support people to restore and nourish their body, mind and spirit.

The New York styleMorehead Street studio features two floatation pods, two yoga studios, together with massage, body therapy and meditation rooms.

Both Lee and Andrew have strong backgrounds in the health and wellbeing industry. Lee has studied and taught extensively in complimentary health therapies and was instrumental in bringing the first floatation tanks to Newcastle during the 1980s.

Andrew’s expertise includes teacher and coach education and sports science, as well as playing and coaching elite level rugby union.

“Whether it’s professional, personal, or sports related, people suffering from chronic headaches, arthritis, lower back and shoulder issues, sport injuries or simply a loss in performance, are finding floatation therapy extremely therapeutic,” said Andrew.

“We both floated in these advanced and modern pods in London and decided we wanted to bring them to Newcastle.”

National organisation, beyond blue’s State of Workplace Mental Health in Australia (TNS Global 2014)report estimated that untreated mental health conditions cost workplaces approximately $10.9 billion per year.

“These are increasingly busy and demanding times and many people are finding that proactively managing stress and anxiety is a good start to addressing what can often lead to burnout and additional health related issues if left untreated,” Lee said.
