PKF employees recognised as Women in Finance Award finalists

PKF has announced that Audit Manager, Katie Johnston, and Commercial Manager, Stacie Shaw, have been named finalists in this year’s Women in Finance Awards.

Up against over 250 high-achieving professionals across 28 categories, the team are proud that two of their finest members are being recognised for their contributions to the accounting profession.

Katie said she is celebrating this achievement alongside all the other women in the industry, who continue to make it possible.

“As I sit in lockdown 2.0, the most important focus for me as a leader, is ensuring my team is motivated and feels valued when working from home,” she said.

“Being named as an Auditor of the Year finalist is that next step in recognising women and their capabilities within the audit profession and I am proud to be a part of that journey.”

Joining PKF back in 2014, Katie started with the Newcastle team, bringing a fresh new perspective to the audit team and has since transferred to their Sydney office.

Since then, she has developed a true customer focused outlook to any issue or question that gets put across her desk.

Now, Katie manages a team across Sydney and Newcastle, and believes that if you have the right mindset, your team can achieve anything.

Starting as a trainee with the firm almost 16 years ago, Stacie has grown to become the person that our team can go to for anything and everything.

A most recent highlight has been her involvement in a firm-wide software change-over, giving the PKF team the technology they need to work efficiently through collaboration.

“I am a firm believer that if something’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right, always, whether someone is watching or not,” Stacie said.

“The highest professional compliment I’ve ever been paid was being called “safe hands” – and it’s been my professional motivation and mantra ever since.

“I’m grateful to PKF for the many challenging and fulfilling opportunities I’ve been given over the years; and am honored to be a finalist for Regional Professional of the Year.”

Founded in 2017 by Momentum Media, the Women in Finance Awards span across the Australian finance industry, celebrating female leaders and their achievements as professionals.

Editor of Mortgages at Momentum Media, Annie Kane said that from the very beginning the awards have been about recognising the incredible role women place in the finance industry.

“Since its inception, the whole concept of the Women in Finance Awards has been to champion and profile the amazing women working in financial services — an industry that has been, and remains, typically male-dominated,” she said.

“This year, we were thrilled to see that a record number of people nominated their friends, colleagues, and peers for an award, demonstrating the growing outpouring of support for those leading the way—and a desire to create more female role models in this space.”

The winners are set to be announced in early September.
