Sixteen community projects, initiatives, and programs across central, western and northern NSW will be brought to life following Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation’s grant giving ceremony held in Newcastle on Friday, 8 December 2017.
This round of grant funding totalled more than $780,000 and was the second grant giving ceremony for the Foundation in 2017. The announcements brought the total amount donated to the community by the Foundation since it was established in 2003 to $17.56 million.
From this latest round, grants totalling over $400,000 will facilitate projects targeted at improving the lives of disadvantaged and at-risk youth; more than $240,000 will directly go towards improving community health and well-being; and more than $130,000 will support the social well-being of marginalised and isolated members of the community.
“The quality of candidates and applications in this round was incredibly high. Selecting the final recipients was challenging, however the innovation presented by today’s grant recipients has been recognised by the Foundation Board,” Chairman, Phil Neat, said.
“Today, we provided funding for eight new partners, and eight new projects with partners we’ve previously supported. It’s important to the community that we’re able to support the programs and initiatives of new partners, as well as support those we’ve successfully partnered with before, and who are now applying for support for new programs and initiatives. This is evidence that the support provided by the Foundation has a real and positive impact in our communities.”
Each of the projects that received a funding grant at today’s ceremony will start in the coming months and all will be completed by the close of 2019. This means that the community will begin to reap the benefits of the funded initiatives and projects by early next year.
“The Foundation provides financial support to projects and initiatives that address community disadvantage in regional NSW. The new grants bring the total amount we’ve donated to $17.56 million since 2003. In this time, we’ve supported tens-of-thousands of people throughout Newcastle Permanent’s regional NSW footprint.”
“After announcing today’s grants, the Foundation Board is keen to work with these charitable community groups see their initiatives and projects come to fruition in the next 24 months,” Phil concluded.
