Christmas has come early for 17 charities across regional NSW, each receiving a share of more than $800,000 funding from Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation for local community projects.
The charities were formally presented with their cheques last Wednesday in a special event on the rooftop of Newcastle Permanent.
The Board of Directors at Newcastle Permanent Building Society established the Foundation 11 years ago to mark the Building Society’s 100th anniversary.
Charitable Foundation Chairman Michael Slater said many not-for-profit organisations rely on corporate philanthropic support to offer their programs and services to the community and the Charitable Foundation is proud to be able to help make this a reality.
“The Charitable Foundation was endowed with $30 million for philanthropic projects as a way of thanking the community for its support of the Building Society for 100 years,” Michael said.
“Corporate philanthropy is not just a good thing to do, rather it is a responsibility of good corporate citizens to support the communities in which they operate.
“To date Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation has donated almost $12 million to community projects and initiatives which may otherwise not have been achievable.”
“Locally in the Hunter, this round of funding will support 11 new community projects and initiatives that focus on community health and wellbeing, youth development and mentoring, social inclusiveness and training and education.”
Some of the local charities to receive funding include:
- Autoimmune Resource and Research Centre
- Family Insight
- Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation
- Hunter Youth Mentor Collaborative
- PCYC Muswellbrook
- PCYC Nelson Bay
- United Hospital Auxiliary – Mater Hospital
“Christmas is a time to say thanks and the Charitable Foundation would also like to acknowledge the staff and volunteers of these charities who work tirelessly all year to support the more disadvantaged members of our community,” Michael concluded.
Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation distributes more than $1.5 million annually to local not-for-profit organisations in the Hunter, New England, Central West, Central Coast, Northern Rivers and Mid North Coast.
