Passion in business to be discussed at Club event

The speaker at the March Newcastle Business Club luncheon will bring the keys to the “passion map” to help those attending to unlock passion in themselves and the organisations in which they work.

Hunter-based, world expert in passion in the workplace, Shivani, said passionate workplaces attract and retain good staff.  She said research by global consulting company Gallup (State of the Global Workplace 2013) showed only 13 per cent of employees across 142 countries were engaged at work.

Chief passion officer at Passionate People Institute said unlocking passion is key to successful leadership and teamwork. She said inspiring and harnessing passion in others starts with business leaders understanding and unlocking their own passion.

“When people are passionate in a workplace, things get done and productivity soars,” Shivani said.

“There are practical things leaders and team members can do to become more passionate and it isn’t always getting more money,” she said.

She said business leaders can unlock passion in their staff that isn’t about work but can align that to the goals of the organisation.

Newcastle Business Club president Jo Bright said it was great to have a local speaker of Shivani’s calibre at the Business Club. Jo said it was fitting for a successful local businesswoman to be speaking on International Women’s Day.

“Shivani is not only a world expert in the subject of passion but she is a highly sought after, international keynote speaker who we are fortunate to have as a local business owner here in Newcastle,” Jo said. “Guests will be treated to a highly inspiring speech that will generate action.”

“Shivani speaks from extensive experience gained from almost 15 years of business coaching and running several of her own businesses, as well as her time as a corporate executive,” Jo concluded.

Shivani is also a Fairfax business columnist and has presented a business series on SBS Television. She has authored or co-authored a number of books. Her first book, Passion at Work, has been translated into Mandarin.
