Osborn Law proud of accredited specialist

Newcastle based Solicitor, Lisa Roberts, has been appointed as an Accredited Specialist in Wills and Estates.

The Law Society of NSW operates the Specialist Accreditation Scheme to help the general public identify solicitors who have demonstrated proficiency in a particular area of law.

Solicitors who fulfil the requirements of the Scheme are entitled to use, after their name, the words ‘accredited specialist’ in the nominated area of practice.

Before gaining accreditation, under the requirements of the Scheme, a solicitor must have practised full-time for at least five years, worked in their area of speciality for at least three years and passed rigorous assessments in communication, problem solving, client relations and the law.

Less than seven per cent of solicitors in NSW have their Specialist Accreditation. Lisa, a senior solicitor at Newcastle-based Osborn Law, becomes one of only three Solicitors, and the only female in private practice, to hold the accreditation in this particular discipline in Newcastle.

Partner of Osborn Law, Tim Osborn, said that Accredited Specialists are Solicitors who have shown outstanding capability in a particular area of law.

“The requirements for becoming recognised as an accredited specialist are quite rigorous,” Tim said.

“Further to this, each year they must continue to improve their knowledge and skill base in their specific discipline to retain their Accreditation. Because of these stringent requirements, the Law Society advertises that you are in safe hands with an Accredited Specialist, and this achievement is testament to Lisa’s dedication and expert knowledge of wills and estates.”

Lisa Roberts said that she was happy to be able to deliver her clients’ meaningful and practical advice to safeguard their future and the future of their family.

“Everyone should review their personal and business circumstances and agreements. Death is not always the easiest thing to discuss, but we all know it is inevitable and something that should be discussed. I am happy to be recognised as someone that specialises in helping people during these often difficult discussions,” she said.

“Not all solicitors are the same – any solicitor may hold themself out as a specialist if they have appropriate expertise or experience. However an Accredited Specialist solicitor has had their claim to expertise and experience tested by the Law Society of NSW by a process of rigorous assessments and examinations.
