Local Newcastle based bike tour company, Newy Rides has partnered with Chef Joel Humphreys (who has previously worked at Rockpool, Bistro Moncur and Bodega 1904) to kick off The Ride Along Series.
The Ride Along Series are bespoke, one-off events that aim to showcase our coastal city and the people that bring it to life.
Founder of Newy Rides, Ben Ogden, said this event will allow people to see beyond the surface layer of Newcastle and really immerse themselves into the culture, people and history that makes the city so special.
“The Ride Along Series is a series of bespoke events that allows guests to peel back a layer of various Newcastle identities, getting a behind-the-scenes look at how their mind works by showcasing their wares, interacting with you along the way,” Ben said.
“This is a true meet-the-maker experience – but by bike.”
The first of the series hosted by Newy Rides will showcase the cuisine of Joel Humphreys in the format of a progressive lunch.
Joel has an impressive resume with stints at Bistro Moncur, St. JOHN (London), Rockpool, Bodega 1904 and is currently the Executive Chef at locally loved seafood haven, Scotties, and the most recently created Lost Boys Kebabs.
The experience will start by meeting at a designated spot where everyone is introduced, letting the day unfold with a specially curated three-course menu including wine pairings riding onwards to each unique stop.
“I’ve invited some great Newy producers along for the ride to really enhance the experience and showcase the best products in the region,” he said.
Local winemaker, Daniel Payne from Dirt Candy Wines will be pouring wine at each stop as well as Cameron Burns from Earp Distilling Co – who will be creating a one-off gin for the event.
The event will run over two Saturdays in May, with only 12 seats per event. This intimate event series is a great chance to get up and close to some of Newcastle’s finest makers – and they could be riding right next to you along the way.
