Newcastle specialist litigation practice appoints new Special Counsel

Roberts Legal, a Newcastle-based commercial litigation practice, has announced the appointment of Matthew Bryan as Special Counsel.

Matthew is a former partner of an established Newcastle commercial law practice and is well-known in the legal fraternity as a formidable adversary in litigation matters.

Matthew brings with him a wealth of experience in litigation and dispute resolution, with a particular emphasis on consumer and competition law, building and construction law, lease and strata property disputes, insolvency and debt recovery. He also has extensive experience in relation to contested wills claims and work, health and safety law.

He will join Roberts Legal as a senior member of its Commercial Litigation and Building & Construction Law teams and team leader of its Contested Wills practice.

Matthew said that the invitation to join Roberts Legal was timely and welcomed.

“I am excited about the prospect of working for a firm of specialist experts in Litigation and Building and Construction Law, which are the core areas that I have practiced in over the last 14 years,” Matthew said. “The opportunity to expand and develop my existing skills and client base in these areas is the primary reason that I made the move.”

Principal Solicitor, Sam Roberts, said they had been on the lookout for a Senior Commercial Litigation Lawyer for some time, but that the good ones were few and far between.

“Matthew will be a great addition to our team,” Sam said. “His approach is much like my own. I am confident that he will bolster our already prominent reputation for commercial litigation work.”

The appointment of Matthew caps off what was an exciting year of growth in 2016 for Roberts Legal.

“Our reputation for excellence in commercial and litigious matters and our online presence has been growing rapidly,” Sam continued.

“Currently around 70% of our new enquiries come from businesses and contractors in the Sydney area and beyond. Referrals of commercial dispute work by local general practice Solicitors has also been on the rise. Matthew’s appointment will help us meet that growing demand as well as increase the connections that we have with local businesses and professionals.”
