Newcastle Perm Charitable Foundation announces new Chairman

Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation has announced the election of founding Director Phil Neat as Chairman following Michael Slater’s decision to step down from the role.

Phil joined the Charitable Foundation Board of Directors in 2003 and is also a Director of Newcastle Permanent Building Society.

Co-Director Samantha Martin-Williams has also stood down from the Board due to work commitments and will be replaced by Jennifer Leslie, a Director of Newcastle Permanent Building Society since 2015.

Phil said he is honoured to be elected Chairman of Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation.

“I will endeavour to continue the exceptional community support that the Charitable Foundation has become so well known for since its inception 14 years ago,” Phil said.

“I would like to acknowledge the wonderful service Mike Slater has given in his role as a Director and Chairman of Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation over the past 10 years, for which he’s become known as a champion of philanthropy within the region and state.

“During this time he has made a substantial contribution to the Charitable Foundation’s grant giving framework and comprehensive governance structure. His passion for supporting the community has made a significant difference to the not-for- profit sector as the Charitable Foundation has grown to become what we believe is the largest of its kind in regional NSW, providing more than $15 million in grants to date.

“Throughout the past decade, Mike has generously dedicated his time to travel throughout regional NSW to engage with community groups and support Charitable Foundation-funded initiatives that improve the lives of some of the most disadvantaged or marginalised members of our community.”

Having worked with Michael for 15 years, Phil is looking forward to continuing his legacy in the role.

“As a Director, I know Mike will continue to make a very valuable contribution to the Charitable Foundation and the community,” Phil said.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Samantha for her service as a Director and welcome Jennifer to the Charitable Foundation Board,” he said.

The Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation provides over $1.5million in grants each year to eligible not-for-profit and community organisations in the Hunter, Central Coast, New England, Central West, Northern Rivers and Mid North Coast.
