Newcastle Airport rallies support for HBCF

In a tough economic climate Newcastle Airport has rallied support for a local charity, coordinating a golf day event that raised $32,500 for the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation.

For the last six years the Foundation has been the charity of choice for the Airport, and in that short time they have raised almost $210,000 to help continue grassroots support for local people undergoing breast cancer treatment.

Newcastle Airport CEO, Paul Hughes said that the support of the Airport’s business partners and stakeholders year-after-year is humbling.

“This year our golf day brought the cumulative donation to the Foundation to almost $210,000 since 2009,” Paul said.

“With this money, the Foundation has been able to fully establish itself in the Hunter region. I am honoured to have lead a team that has raised funds that have been used by the Foundation for, amongst many other things, comfort cushions, the purchase of a vehicle used for patient transport, and a wig library.”

“I am incredibly proud to have facilitated charity events that allow Newcastle Airport and its business partners to show incredible generosity; generosity that will have a lasting impact on breast cancer patients within the Hunter and Central Coast regions.”

HBCF President Lisa Bartley said that the relationship with Newcastle Airport is an example of the importance of corporate partnerships for charities.

“The funds the Airport have raised over the past six years have enabled us to take this charity to the next level,” Lisa said. “In addition to the money we have received from the Airport, they have also been incredibly generous in using their connections to raise awareness of the Foundation and the services provided.”

“They have promoted the Foundation on billboards, their website, screens in their terminal and through their communications with stakeholders and business partners. This type of support is vital to spread the word about our services,” Lisa concluded.

Donations coordinated by Newcastle Airport have enabled the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation to further develop their signature comfort cushions and provide them free-of-charge to patients undergoing breast cancer treatment.

The Foundation receives no Government funding and relies on the support of the community to provide their services.
