A first-of-its-kind partnership between Mayfield-based COVID-19 testing unit wholesaler AusRapid CovidTest and virtual health services provider Medical Rapid Test Clinic (MRTC) is enabling businesses to conduct their own rapid antigen COVID-19 testing without the requirement and expense of an on-site medical practitioner.
From earlier this month, Australian businesses can screen employees for COVID-19 via a saliva test which delivers results in about 15 minutes, supported online by a medical practitioner to ensure compliance.
Importantly, because it is a simple saliva-based test, it does not involve nasal and throat swabs.
The partnership means organisations and employees can conduct COVID-19 tests almost anywhere and at any time, with results in 15 minutes.
It removes the obvious logistical problem and cost burden of having a trained health practitioner on-site, which is beneficial to businesses already challenged by lockdowns and restrictions.
Until now, rapid antigen testing has simply not been an option for many small to medium sized organisations. For others, the expense of an on-site GP has been impossible to justify in the current climate.
The COVID-19 Antigen Saliva Pen Test, which is a simple pen, was TGA-approved last month and is already used by leading organisations including freight logistics company, Asciano Limited.
Managing Director at AusRapid CovidTest, Kaleb Paten says the new partnership means simple, effective rapid antigen testing is now accessible to a much broader range of businesses and organisations.

Thomas Curtain of MRTC welcomed the agreement with AusRapid CovidTest to broaden the scope of quality health services it delivers and contribute to the collective efforts against COVID-19.
AusRapid CovidTest modelling shows the cost saving per test unlocked by access to MRTC’s online health resources is approximately 25 per cent.
