National law firm announces promotions to Senior Associate

Sparke Helmore Lawyers has announced a range of promotions across Australia, with seven new appointments to senior associate.

Within the Newcastle office, Stephanie Nevin has been recognised for advancement, within the Corporate & Commercial group.

Stephanie joined the firm’s Planning, Environment and Local Government team in February 2012.

She is an experienced environmental and planning lawyer who advises clients on the interpretation and requirements of the Local Government Act 1993 (NSW), the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (NSW), the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 (NSW) and other environmental legislation. Stephanie regularly conducts litigation in the Land and Environment Court.

“It always gives me a great sense of pride to announce internal promotions,” Phillip Salem, Sparke Helmore’s National Managing Partner, said.

“Recognising our outstanding lawyers for their contributions to our clients and the firm, and their dedication and tenacity to driving successful careers is wonderful to see and an integral part of our firm’s aim to be a world-class Australian law firm.”

Stephanie says she started her legal career in general practice in Queensland before moving to the Newcastle area, which has opened up new opportunities for her.

“I love where I live and I work in an area of law that I really enjoy. The scope of planning and environment law in New South Wales is so broad and every day brings new challenges. The NSW Government is currently proposing significant reforms to the planning law in this State. This will affect my clients and how they operate, and I am looking forward to working with them through this transitional period,” Stephanie said.

“I am excited for this next step in my career and look forward to the challenges of the role and working with my clients to achieve their goals.”

“I enjoy the diversity of working in the Hunter. I am fortunate that I get to travel for work and experience a lot of what the Region has to offer. I can be attending hearings onsite at the Newcastle Baths one week and on rural properties in Patterson the next.”

Other promotions include Jenna Forbes – Insurance, Melbourne, Joanna Lee – Corporate & Commercial, Sydney, Ellie Moran – Insurance, Adelaide, Philip Ramsay – Insurance, Sydney, Elle Tattersall – Government, Brisbane and Tyne van Dissel – Insurance, Adelaide.
