  • Could you tell us a little about your career path?

My career path was the case that I was always destined to be in IT.  I started back in high school where I got an opportunity to support part of the school’s network, moved into doing study around IT and then started to work for a systems integrator.

After four years of working for someone else I started Dynamic Business.  For the first three or four years of the company I was really just a technician who happened also to be the boss and later on discovered that it had to be run and that I needed to set myself up to actually run the company.

  • What do you believe has shaped your leadership style?

My leadership style has been shaped by other leaders in the community, by books, I love to learn, I love to constantly improve myself and ultimately the business.  So my leadership style has come from as many external factors as I can in order to make sure that I’ve got the right team and that I am helping them to lead and direct the future of the company.

  • What is one action or task you ensure you incorporate into your diary each week?

Every Monday morning before the rest of the office gets to work I sit down and have a look at our overall goals – our ten year, three year and one year goals – and I’ll make sure that the actions I am setting up for the week are aligned to those and I’m not wasting time anywhere as it has to focus on the outcomes that we want to deliver for the business and our clientele.

  • What do you believe makes business unique in the Hunter?

I think in the Hunter we’ve got the opportunity that we are far enough away from Sydney that we can be unique but close enough to Sydney that there is some influence from them, but really as a region we have everything that we need – we are a community unto ourselves so what happens in the Hunter and the business that happens here is as good as the business that happens anywhere else in the world I believe.

  • What local businessperson do you find inspiring?

I think we are really lucky in the Hunter.  There are a lot of inspiring business people from Rachael Sheldrick, Amber Moncreiff and Jen Higgins who are doing amazing things in their fields.

If I had to pick just one I would probably pick Bruce Watson who is the CEO of MINE, he has insurance and superannuation company for mining.  Now that was a company that was not technology centric was focused on one particular industry and they have actually been able to turn that around, focus on the technology and grow it into a company that can really support any individual in the Hunter now.
