Micro Theatre applauds business partnership

Micro Theatre Festival, Newcastle’s independent and quirky short play festival, is excited to announce it will once again partner with Port of Newcastle for its 2017 event.

Micro Theatre is a short play festival with a competitive strand that culminates in a week-long season, 22 – 26 August 2017, with plays performed in local cafés and a small art gallery.

The support will enable Micro Theatre to continue to make its mark on a national level, with prize money on offer and additional rehearsal space available for finalists.

Festival Director, Kate Dun says that the team is proud to welcome Port of Newcastle as a sponsor again.

“We are over the moon that Port of Newcastle is sponsoring the Festival for a second year. It’s a huge vote of confidence from their Community Partnerships Program and highly appreciated by our participants,” Kate said.

“Each year we try to grow Micro Theatre a little in the hope that many small steps will build a great festival and it is wonderful to have Port of Newcastle support us in this goal to create a festival of small plays that is big on quality and audience enjoyment.

“Writers, directors and actors give an enormous amount of their time and energy to their art. The opportunity of prize money is not only a motivational boost for performers, but also helps us attract high quality writers, directors and actors to the festival.”

Port of Newcastle’s CEO, Geoff Crowe said staff from Port of Newcastle thoroughly enjoyed the performances they attended last year for the festival.

“We are pleased to again support such an innovative event that showcases Newcastle’s vibrant performing arts community.”

Script entries for the festival have recently closed, with almost 300% more entries than the previous year.
